Patented support for poultry under heat stress conditions

The temperatures are rising, summer is coming. But this summer will be a little different than the years before: As for me, I will probably spend it on my balcony in beautiful Linz in Austria due to Covid-19. If it’s getting hot I might enjoy ice cream. How does poultry react to rising temperatures, and how can phytogenic feed additives offer support here?

Heat stress in poultry production?

After all, modern broiler breeds have a continuously increasing growth rate and feed efficiency, which coincides with a reduced heat tolerance. Housing broilers at high ambient temperatures adversely affects performance, intestinal integrity, immune response, and meat quality.

Did you know?

In poultry, typical symptoms of heat stress are reflected by the following signs:

  • Reduced feed and increased water intake
  • Reduced movement and laying down
  • Strongly increase breathing rate and gasping to stimulate heat loss by evaporation
  • Increased morbidity and mortality

With our phytogenic feed additive, Biostrong® Comfort, we have developed a patented solution for poultry experiencing heat stress.

In particular, Biostrong® Comfort contributes to the maintenance of animal welfare and performance due to increased feed intake in poultry. Trial data have shown improved feed intake. Proper feed intake is important for gut function. This was shown in terms of HSP response and barrier integrity.

Patented support under heat stress conditions in poultry

Due to their beneficial properties, in particular with regard to improving performance and promoting resilience to heat stress, phytogenic feed additives have the potential to become a new generation of feed additives for innovative animal nutrition and animal welfare. Phytogenic feed additives are thus an essential tool in supporting poultry under heat stress conditions and thus contributing to profitable animal production.
